About IDC

Formation Reasoning

The Interdisciplinary Design Collaborative (IDC) was formed to provide students in a collegiate environment with the opportunity to obtain field-appropriate experience while developing innovative technologies. Through creating unique products, research and development, and managerial experience IDC’s employees are able to build their resumes while enhancing their knowledge. By utilizing the profit equity business model, in which employees are paid proportionately to how many hours of work is dedicated to a project, IDC provides students with the opportunity to generate a consistent form of income often times greater than other employment prospects.

IDC is Project Based

The corporate structure IDC maintains is conducive to the company’s project-based nature. When a project is chosen for research and development by the executive board it is assigned to a project manager in a respective department. It is then the project manager’s duty to assemble a team of competent employees, particularly those with an interest or specialization in a relevant field of study. The assembly of each team is required to be in accordance with IDC’s mission of providing employees with field-appropriate experience while guaranteeing the highest level of proficiency possible.

Project Requirements

IDC seeks technologically advanced projects that can be completed in a minimal time frame. Many of the company’s previous projects include the development and design of mobile device applications development, new products, software, and websites. All of the projects chosen have a unique, innovative prospect and an engineering intensive quality.

IDC's Resources

To ensure the employees of IDC are provided with appropriate means of communication and documentation they are supplied with several software-based tools. For daily activity these tools include a company e-mail that provides access to Google docs, and a company calendar. To ensure the functionality of the profit equity system through time input documentation as well as provide guidelines for project advancement, IDC utilizes the web-based project management application dotproject. Further more, the company appropriately attains software required to complete specific projects. Employees are also allowed to utilize the IDC facilities, which are suitably equipped with staff workstations. Each workspace has ample desk space and a computer outfitted with the proper equipment for project completion. Additionally, employees are provided with the proper contacts for guidance. Many of these contacts are company advisors who offer general business and legal advice as well as technical support.

Project Selection

After initial research is completed on a project to ensure feasibility it is presented to the executive board for review. If the idea parallels the company’s vision, additional documentation concerning the required resources, effort to profit ration, estimated return on investment, and manpower necessary must be compiled and submitted for a second review. A decision on if the project will be funded is based off of the documentation presented as well as supplemental research completed by IDC. To submit an idea, click here.
